Due Passi

Two Steps (Italian)

At the end of June we walked from Meadowbank to Cabarita. This week we will continue down the river.

We start at Abbotsford Wharf . The ferry to Cabarita is scheduled to leave at 8.14am, so meeting at the normal time should see us in place on time.

Remember your OPAL card.

We start the actual walking at Cabarita Wharf and head south with a French flavour (…I know, Bastille Day was last Sunday …) as we discover some French (Canadian) Connections - Canada Bay, Exile Bay and France Bay. Our walk reveals a little known episode in our history. After the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1838, 60 rebels were deported to Australia and spent their time at Longbottom (Concord) constructing Parramatta Road, collecting oyster shells for making lime, and generally passer du bon temps.
Bayview Park has a memorial to these rebels - you can read more on Wikipedia.

We march on Mes Patriotes.

Not sure about the origins of Kings Bay or Hen & Chicken Bay, but we turn away from the water at H&CB and head for coffee.  There are a few likely places on Great North Road (including Due Passi)between Altona and Spring Streets (for those not doing the full walk) – we’ll decide when we arrive.

After coffee, we head back to the cars at Abbotsford Point.  The distance is a little over 9 km, and the forecast is for a warm winter’s day.
