BYE BYE 2015

ANOTHER GOOD YEAR........

For our last walk of 2015 we venture to West Ryde - a stomping ground for many of us - where Marg will take us up hill and down dale, through some bush tracks before coffee in the neat cafe near W Ryde Station, about 7 kms in total.

Meet on the corner of Herbert Street and Ryedale Road West Ryde at 8am for our last hurrah on the streets for 2015.

Looking forward to seeing in 2016 at Julie and Robert's - should be lots of fun.

Merry Christmas and health, happiness and peace in 2016.

B.

PS We will resume walks in Feb........stay tuned.

END NOVEMBER ON A HIGH....

BALLS HEAD REVISITED

Steve has discovered yet another way to enjoy our marvellous bushland close to the city. This is a new route around Balls Head and ends at the Coal Loader, and as repetetive as it may seem, we start at Woolcott St and Balls Head Road at 8am on Sunday.

There is an artisans market at the Coal Loader on Sunday so you may be interested in having a look at that. Steve and I will also be going to the Climate March in the early afternoon if anyone would like to join us.

Cheers,
B.

Thursday 19 November 2015

Try try again

Let's try again this weekend? Meet on the corner of Woolcott St and Balls Head Rd for a walk in much more pleasant weather.
Please let Steve know if you are coming,  I am not able make it this week. An email will be coming round with his phone number, enjoy!

BALLS HEAD

Apologies for the late post but we have had computer problems since returning from Melbourne...

It was a great brunch last weekend, with a great bunch - hard to believe that we have clocked  another year of walks. Now onwards and upwards.

We return to Balls Head this Sunday for a 7km walk through the Reserve, and round the suburbs of Waverton and Wollstonecraft. There is not much off road walking after all this rain, but maybe wear your walking shoes in case any areas are very wet.

Meet on the corner of Woolcott Street and Balls Head Road Waverton at 8am.

Please let me know if you are coming - I can then SMS if it looks like rain.

Thursday 5 November 2015

BRUNCHING TIME

It is our Sunday Brunch week and from the forecast we should be swimming not walking this Sunday.

We will however leave plans in place for a walk from our house at 8am, followed by brunch.

If it turns out to be raining on Sunday morning then we will still have brunch from 10am, if the weather is doubtful I will send round an SMS at 7.15am indicating if the walk is on.

See you either at 8am or 10am on Sunday. Please let me know what you will bring, just so we don't double up, thanks.

PRIMROSE PARK

CAMMERAY TO PRIMROSE PARK

This Walk of about 6kms takes in some interesting territory, an old cemetry, plus Primrose Park at Neutral Bay has some nice views over Willoughby Bay. Last time we did this walk it started to rain so it will be nice to see it in some Sunday sunshine.

Meet on the corner of West and Amherst Streets Cammeray, plenty of on street parking.

It looks like the 8th November suits those who have replied for our end of year get together, so put that in your diary. Same as our previous brunches, bring a plate, have a walk, followed by a talk!.

See you on Sunday 8am,

No walking this weekend, however please let me know if either November 8 or 15 is suitable for an end of year get together after our Sunday walk.

See you next week,

FAMILIAR TERRITORY

SANTA ROSA PARK

This Sunday will be familiar territory for many of us - beginning at Santa Rosa Park we will explore the parks and streets of Ryde and discover the newly renovated Yamble Reserve on Quarry Road.

Meet at the entrance to Santa Rosa Park on Quarry Road, 8am.

Parking should not be a problem and we will rely on local knowledge for a coffee suggestion afterwards. This is an easy 6.5 - 7 km walk

Look forward to seeing you Sunday.

SPRING FUN

For this Spring Sunday we will traverse the suburbs of Cammeray, Willoughby and Northbridge.

Meet at the Shell service station on Miller Street (cnr Palmer St) at Cammeray, there will be plenty of free
parking either on Miller Street or in the council car park behind the servo.

This walk, though only about 5kms, has some hills, stairs, and a variety of scenery; you might be surprised to be walking on a bush track here and there.....it should be challenging enough.

Here'e the link: http://www.mapmywalk.com/au/cammeray-new-south-wales/naremburn-tunks-park-route-137630377

See you 8am Sunday.

We are keen to have a look at the newly opened Sydney Goods Line, which will also take us past the Frank Gehry Building, this will be another short walk but should be quite interesting.

Meet at Mary Ann Park in Mary Ann Street, Ultimo at 8am and we shall discover another part of our lovely city. Let's hope the showers abate by Sunday.

Till then

ON AGAIN....OFF AGAIN

Barangaroo was such a lovely walk last Sunday, perfect weather and sparkling Sydney Harbour, some folks thought that, combined with the chocolate festival, was just the best!

A few people are away or not available this weekend so we have decided to cancel the walk on  Sunday Sept 20th - it is also the Sydney Marathon so the city will be very crowded.

Hope to see you all bright eyed and bushy tailed on 27th.
B.

Friday 11 September 2015

BARANGAROO

BARANGAROO RESERVE

After a long hiatus we are back in business!!

Thought the new Barangaroo Reserve was worth a look so why not meet at 8am in front of the Museum of Contemporary Art at Circular Quay on Sunday?

It is not a long walk but it will be good to get back into the swing of things again. Plenty of options for coffee at the end.

Looking forward to catching up after such a long time.....shall I wear a pink carnation?

Thursday 3 September 2015

FATHERS DAY

NO GO AREA!

AUGUST 9th  and 16th

Steve and I will be MIA for a fortnight and this weekend is the City to Surf so there will be no walk. The following Sunday Aug 16th, Sue and Pete are kindly organising the walk so you will have an email from them in due course.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Harbour Sculptures walk last Sunday, great weather, fun walking and lots of very good sculpture, with a Harbour backdrop of course!

Take good care,
B.

SCULPTURES BY THE HARBOUR

WOOLWICH FOR SOME CULTURE

As Sculptures by the Harbour is on we thought to repeat one of our walks to take in the outdoor and indoor sculptures at Clark Park and the Deckhouse.

The Moocooboola Festival is also on but this is centred more on Hunters Hill than Woolwich so we don't anticipate any problems with parking .

Meet at Franki Avenue, near the Woolwich Pier at 8am.

Here's the link: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/112086733/

Last Sunday was rather special - when Jillian, Steve and I found that we were the only walkers we decided to walk around the Quakers Hat route at Beauty Point......at exactly the same time a 65 ton southern right whale decided to frolic in Chinamans Beach and towards The Spit.  We were treated to an extended view of the whale up so close we could hear it breathing. What an experience.

Looking forward to Sunday.

Thursday 23 July 2015

EASTERN COAST

BRONTE TO BONDI

This week we take a change of scenery and walk from Bronte to Bondi, about 6kms.

The weather promises to be good so we may see some sparkling Sydney views, and it is whale season so who knows?

Meet on the corner of Nelson Ave and Bronte Road at 8am, bring some meter money in case parking is an issue. There appears to be lots of coffee houses at Bronte Beach......

Looking forward to catching up with everyone.

ANOTHER SLEEP IN

There are lots of our group out of town this weekend so we thought it prudent to have a sleep in this Sunday, especially as the weather will be very cold. Enjoy either the snow, or pictures of it.

NOT WIMPING OUT

NORTH SYDNEY, with a twist and turn.......

We revisit Kirribilli and North Sydney with a few new twists and turns. A little history teaser on this route........can you name the park from which Kingsford-Smith used to fly his planes?

Meet on the corner of Broughton Road and Willoughby Street, Milsons Point at 8am. This walk is about 5kms with some hills and steps just to keep us on our toes.

Meter money for parking might be needed, fingers crossed for no rain and slightly higher temps.

WIMPS

Wimping out this Sunday............Sydney temps are predicted to range from 0 - 6 degrees in the morning, brrrrrrrr. Go for a walk in the middle of the day once the sun has come out and we have thawed a bit.

Let's hope it is a bit warmer by the next week.

Friday 26 June 2015

EAST BALMAIN

East Balmain beckons this Sunday. We will take in the Maritime Police facility and discover some walkways  through Illoura and Simmons Point Reserves and generally enjoy the ambiance of this suburb.

The walk is about 5kms, meet at 8am in Adolophus Street, near the intersection with Vincent Street. No info re parking so bring some money with you in case there are meters.

CENTRAL PARK....NOT NYC........CHIPPENDALE

THE OLD AND THE NEW

We have 5kms mapped out around Central Park Chippendale, pretty flat street walking. An interesting mix of the old and new architecture of Sydney.

The landmark Frank Gehry building and Central Park are the modern architectural examples. The interior of Central Park is quite interesting, and the exterior hanging gardens soften the appearance of the building. St Benedict's and Christ Church St Lawrence plus the ornate Sydney Technical College contrast with the modern structures.

Meet on the corner of Blackfriars and Buckland Streets, 8am.

Free parking is available in Buckland, Moorgate and Grafton Streets, but take some meter money just in case.

Here's the link:http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/744281141

See you at 8am.

B.

STAY TUNED

Apologies for not posting earlier but......stay tuned.

There is a germ of an idea to walk in Chippendale, around Central Square with the hanging garden building and sculpture in the park. Steve and I will venture into Chippendale for a reconnaissance on Saturday morning and post details of our walk then.

Till Saturday arvo.......

ROSEVILLE MARINA

LONG WEEKEND LOOP

How wonderful to see so many walkers last Sunday, some faces we had not seen for quite some time. This Sunday will be the last walk before Jane and Roger move for their sea/tree change, let's hope for fine weather for their farewell walk.

To send us loopy this Sunday we are discovering some more bush areas adjoining the East Lindfield track we walked a few weeks ago.

Meet near 15 Normac Street, Roseville, near the access to Roseville Marina and, more importantly, Echo on the Marina cafe(echoonthemarina.com.au)The road is quite narrow with twists and turns but there is parking on the side of the road.

From Normac Street we will cross Boundary Road and skirt Roseville Golf Course before some bush walking on Two Creeks Track by the water under the Roseville Bridge. There will be hills and bush tracks as well as some street walking(!)

Here's the link:http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/735019745

Looking forward.....

INNER WEST RAMBLE

ANNANDALE WANDERINGS

We were let out after dark!! Last Wednesday night was delightful, wandering around our beautiful city after a lovely meal at Cafe Nice was such fun. The lights were captivating as we have come to expect, Customs House being my highlight.

This Sunday we are discovering the delights of Annandale and surrounds. Meet on the corner of Nelson and Booth Streets, there is parking in Nelson, Trafalgar or any other Napoleonic inspired street nearby, with plenty of options for coffee afterwards.

This is a short walk of about 5kms so we should be finished in good time.

Here's the link:http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/727334151

See you there.

B.

Friday 22 May 2015

LANE COVE RIVER PARK

This Sunday we take a walk around Lane Cove Park, following the Lane Cove Walking Track to Fiddens Wharf Oval before completing the loop along some suburban streets.

Only about 5kms, we chose a sealed track after the Friday rain.

Park in Lady Game Drive, near the intersection with Fullers Road, near the bridge over the River........

Looking forward to seeing everyone,

B.

LINDFIELD

LINDFIELD PRECINCT................expect the unexpected.

After way too long without our regular Sunday walking, Steve and I are ready and raring to go walking this Sunday May 17.

We are walking approx 7kms through Seven Little Australians Park and then along Two Creeks Track, there is a bit of bush and some fire trail walking.

Meet at 8am at Mack's Place on the corner of Slade Ave and Tryon Road Lindfield. If no source of caffeine is found along the route we can drive to Lindfield Station afterwards.

Here's the link:  http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/489619544/

Looking forward to it.

ALWAYS LEARNING

SYDNEY UNIVERSITY

After a long absence we thought it would be apt to do an educational tour..............of Sydney University, on foot.

Meet on campus at the corner of Physics and Fisher Roads (meter parking $2 per hour) at 8am.

The walk is about 5km so not too taxing, there is no cafe on the campus but Broadway Shopping Centre is close by.

Broadway Shopping Centre has 2 hours free parking if you purchase something......might be cheaper to pay on campus!

Here's the link: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/688723612

We are looking forward to seeing everyone and  catching up on lots of news.
