END OF YEAR WALK AND BRUNCH

NORTHBRIDGE

As this is the end of year brunch we will meet at our place and walk around Northbridge before we have a bite to celebrate another year of exploration, conversation and perambulation. Well done us!

8am start as usual. So far on the menu we have smoked salmon and a sweet, if you could let me know what you will bring to share that would be great, thanks.

looking forward,

B.

SEEN ANY BUFFALOS LATELY?

FIELD OF MARS AND BUFFALO CREEK

A familiar area for most of us to drive by, but how many of us have ventured into the Field of Mars Wildlife Refuge and Cemetery?

This walk will be about 8kms and take in Boronia Park Oval, part of Buffalo Creek Reserve and a wander through Field of Mars, it looks very interesting.

Gotta love this city!

Meet in Princes Street, near the intersection with Pittwater Road, a few coffee spots to choose from here.

TRY TRY AGAIN

After a heavy shower forced us to abandon our walk at the last minute last Sunday, we are looking forward to Cooper Park with even more enthusiasm this week.......

The date for our brunch which seems to suit most people is the 7th December so put that in your diaries , more info to come.

See you on Sunday, it is going to be a hot one.

COOPER PARK

BLAZING NEW TRAILS

ABBOTSFORD / CHISWICK

FORESHORE WANDERING AROUND CHISWICK/ABBOTSFORD

Park and start the walk in Kokoda Street Abbotsford, near the intersection with Bechert Road. Take a long loop of about 7kms around the foreshore taking in Chiswick and Abbotsford Ferry wharves - just looking, not riding a ferry this week.

The coffee shop in Bechert Road is a good end point.

Steve and I will be in the Hunter for the weekend - don't miss us too much ;-).

NOVEMBER ALREADY

CROSSING OVER.

We are looking forward to crossing the Bridge.....twice, this Sunday. Meet at the foot of the stairs at Milsons Point Station at 8am. This walk takes us through the Botanical Gardens and it should be a shiny sight as we cross the Bridge, twice.

Meter parking at Milsons Point, unless you want to arrive early and walk from further afield.

Looking forward to another great Sydney Sunday morning walk.

SHADY SUNDAY WALK

CLIFTON GARDENS TO THE ZOO

It might be quite warm in the morning so we thought a shady walk around the shores of the Harbour would be good. Coffee at the hole in the wall at Clifton Gardens to revive us before the last uphill leg.

Meet at 8am in the carpark near Gunners Barracks, Suakin Drive Georges Heights. Follow the signs to Gunners Barracks, the car park is as far as that road takes you.

See you then.

SPRING SUNDAY

HARBOUR VIEWS

A few peeps are away for the weekend or longer, so could you please sms me to indicate if you have the intention of walking tomorrow? Otherwise we all might have a sleep in.

The walk tomorrow starts at Woolcott Street and Balls Head Road, the same start as a few weeks ago, this time we travel towards Kirribilli and take in some marvellous harbour views.

It looks like another shiny Sunday coming up.

Here's the link: http://www.mapmyrun.com/au/north-sydney-new-south-wales/waverton-kirribilli-loop-route-109525021

We had a few problems opening up Map my run but as we are all familiar with the starting point, I guess you will just have to trust that we find our way back ;-)

WHAT A STAR!!

STELLA IS VISITING

Our lovely Stella is visiting for the long weekend so this means we start at our place for about 7kms of varied terrain around Northbridge and Naremburn.

This is an interesting walk with a few hills, we have walked some of these paths before, but not in this order. Coffee at Bonds Corner about one km before the end of the walk.

Sunday should be fine and about 30 degrees, let's enjoy the spring sunshine.

Looking forward

TRY, TRY AGAIN

LONGUEVILLE STILL AWAITS.......

As the weather caused us to abandon the walk last Sunday (with apologies to Sharon and Trevor) we will repeat the plan as it is a lovely interesting walk.

Forecast is for temps in the high 20s on Sunday so........... there may be shorts.

There will be some comings and goings over the next month or two, Narelle and Mike are back in town but others are about to depart for long holidays - the rest of us are left to travel vicariously.

See you Sunday, (plenty of on street parking in Dettman Ave Longueville).

Friday 19 September 2014

RIVERVIEW

VIEWS GALORE

We want to avoid the city because of the Sydney marathon this Sunday, so a 6km walk around Riverview is ideal.

Weather forecast is good, there is plenty of street parking in Dettman Ave Longueville - hope to see you there.

BALLS HEAD

This walk includes some magnificent views, a little bit of bush, plus some streetscape.

Meet on the corner of Balls Head Road and Woolcott Street, Waverton at 8am for about 7kms of fun and fitness.

Look forward to seeing you then,

FATHER'S DAY

SNOOZE TIME.................

Turn off the alarms because we can sleep in this Sunday. To celebrate Father's Day and due to uncertain weather and many people unavailable we decided to cancel - and hope to see everyone next week.

Friday 29 August 2014

DOUBLE & ROSE BAYS

FURTHER EAST............

An 8km walk from Double Bay to Rose Bay, then a bus ride after coffee, sounds mighty good.

Meet at Double Bay ferry wharf, Bay Street at 8am. On street parking is free on Sunday. Last time we did this walk we caught the ferry on the return journey. The new timetable has cut this ferry out so we are bussing it back to Double Bay, bring either your money or bus ticket with you!

This is such an interesting walk and it is meant to be fine on Sunday :-).

Wednesday 20 August 2014

AGAIN AND AGAIN.............

HUNTLEY'S COVE LOOP.............

The weather worked against us last weekend so we will try again this Sunday, Val and Robert will be the fearless leaders as Steve and I are in Melbourne for the weekend. The forecast is for cloudy weather with the possibility of light showers, much more promising than last week.

Here are the details, have fun!

This Sunday we explore Huntley's Cove - a 5km walk taking us past 2 schools, Riverside Girls and Joeys. There will be lots to see, some bush and water views as well.  All good track this week.

Park in Gladesville Road, between Ryde Road and Matthew Street, we will meet on the corner of Matthew St and Gladesville Rd at 8am. Val reports there is good coffee nearby so we don't have to scout around.

HUNTING AROUND..AGAIN

HUNTLEY'S COVE LOOP

This Sunday we explore Huntley's Cove - a 5km walk taking us past 2 schools, Riverside Girls and Joeys. There will be lots to see, some bush and water views as well.  All good track this week, especially with the forecast of rain.

Park in Gladesville Road, between Ryde Road and Matthew Street, we will meet on the corner of Matthew St and Gladesville Rd at 8am. Val reports there is good coffee nearby so we don't have to scout around.

I will be back walking the streets again on Sunday, let's hope the rain stays away because I have been sorely missing the company and exercise.

See you then.

FIELD OF MARS AND BUFFALO CREEK

A familiar area for most of us to drive by, but how many of us have ventured into the Field of Mars Wildlife Refuge and Cemetery?

WHO KNOWS?

LINDFIELD PRECINCT................expect the unexpected.

This Sunday we will walk the great unknown, no idea if there are steps, it appears there will be bush tracks, maybe hills.....................there has been no reconnaissance, so there may be surprises.

It certainly sounds interesting walking through Seven Little Australians Park and then along Two Creeks Track, and we meet at Mack's Place.

8am at Mack's Place on the corner of Slade Ave and Tryon Road Lindfield. If no source of caffeine is found along the route we can drive to Lindfield Station afterwards.

BANTRY BAY & EXPLOSIVES RESERVE

THIS COULD BE EXPLOSIVE........in Castle Cove

Sorry for the late post, but we are most definitely walking on Sunday 27th July.

This walk (approx. 5.5kms) takes us round Castle Cove, into Explosives Reserve and along some foreshore track, and is abundant with wildflowers at present I am told.

Meet on the corner of Cammaray and Willis Roads in Castle Cove at 8am (note to all sat nav users - spelling of Cammaray differs from the suburb)

Steve will be on his Pat Malone as I am not yet fit to walk, I will come for coffee afterwards and hope that the weather is fine.

NOT THIS WEEK

Apologies for the late post but there have been several impediments, internet has been only available in Reception, which is in another building,  and then it is unreliable. The other impediment is my knee which I injured on our first day on the slopes 😢.

Upshot is that it here is no walk organised for Sunday.  Kathy suggested a walk in Clarke Park at Woolwich where there is a sculpture exhibition but I haven't researched it, maybe the bush telegraph can work, or maybe we have a sleep in this week.

Look forward to seeing you soon and will try harder next week .

Friday 11 July 2014

BERRY ISLAND BECKONS

The weather on Sunday promises to be good so we are going on an island walk.....Berry Island.

We will start in Shirley Road, near Wollstonecraft Station, where we very happily found a cafe which opens on Sunday :-) The walk is about 8kms with some steps for our heart health.

Highly recommend this walk, it was very picturesque, see you Sunday.

 A wattle baby.........

Keep a lookout for this one...........
This last picture is where a tree has blocked the track - turn RIGHT to follow the easier path and LEFT (further left bro) to go via Machu Picchu.......

See you soon you big baboons......

Friday 4 July 2014

GO EAST!

BY POPULAR DEMAND......

Julie and Robert have consented to take us on the Eastern Suburbs walk, which takes us through Centennial and Trumper Parks and finishes near the reservoir in Paddington............very interesting and back by popular demand.

Meet in Centennial Park on the corner of Grand Drive and Parkes Drive (near the cafe/kiosk) at 8am .

Be there or be square!

NO WINTER BLUES

ARTARMON AND NAREMBURN.....

Start this week at Naremburn shops; plenty of parking either on the street or in the small shopping centre on Willoughby Road.

We wander all around Artarmon and Naremburn on a mostly street and park walk of about 7.5 kms. There are several good coffee shops to choose from and a new organic grocer to explore in this interesting little shopping hub.

See you at 8 on Sunday.

LONGER DAYS......

BALMORAL AND CHOWDER BAY

Saturday being the winter solstice will mean that we now can look forward to longer days.........though winter still seems like a memory - from last year!

On Sunday we meet at the carpark near Gunners Barracks in Georges Heights, take the Suakin Drive turnoff from Middle Head Road.

This is a familiar walk with a slight variation, we walk below Burnt Orange cafe and have coffee at the 'Hole in the Wall' at Chowder Bay, one of our favourites.

This walk is about 5kms, with plenty of steps on the metal pathway down to Balmoral Oval, the weather forecast is good. :-)

FINGERS CROSSED

WANDERING 'WOUND' WOOLWICH

Fingers crossed for fine weather this Sunday morning, it may be chilly but that won't put us off.

We meet close to the Pier Hotel in Woolwich.

Park in Woolwich Road or Franki Street and meet on that corner. This should be about a 5km walk, we don't intend doing the final loop around Peter Chanel Church, and will probably stop at the Deckhouse for coffee depending on the weather.

Looking forward to catching up with y'all, it has been a while.......

STARTING THE SECOND HALF OF 2014

PYRMONT - WITH A TWIST

We take a new twist on Pyrmont this Sunday......meet in the usual spot on the corner of Mount Street Walk and Refinery Drive, remember to bring some parking meter money.

We've discovered some interesting little twists in this area, so will enjoy some old and new paths, there will be some steps, it is about 6kms.

See you at 8am Sunday.

BEAUTY SPOT

EVER SEEN A QUAKERS HAT?

This Sunday could be your opportunity................Beauty Point is very aptly named and has a lovely bush track leading to the Quakers Hat.

Magnificent middle harbour vistas and spectacular views through the Heads keep our minds off a few steps and hills on this walk. It is only a shortie but a goodie. To start the walk we have a narrow bush track, then we need our street cred as we cross Military Road to the Balmoral side and proceed to The Spit for coffee.

Meet in Pearl Bay Avenue Mosman, near Moss Lane, at 8am.
If coming from the city on Military Road, take the second left turn after Medusa Street, half way down the Spit Bridge hill , parking should be plentiful.

Only 6kms!!

SUNDAY MAY 18

NOT QUITE IN THE CHOOK YARD..................

Steve and I are away this weekend so we though revisiting Chiswick would be a grand idea.

This Sunday the walk starts on the corner of Kokoda St and Blackwall Point Road, Chiswick. Park the car in Kokoda St, coffee afterwards in Amoretti"s cafe in Bechert Road (bet you've never been to Bechert Rd!!!)

This is a picturesque walk,(only about 7kms); it takes in some familiar territory for those of us whose sons rowed for High. We visit the beautiful old mansion built by the Renwick family, the old animal quarantine station in Abbotsford and we see the Searle memorial, an interesting post sticking up in the middle of the waterway.

Usual start time of 8am,  comment here if you are coming - the weather forecast is good.

Till Sunday.........

BACK TO THE BAY RUN

DRUMMOYNE BAY RUN

We thought it was time to give the Bay Run another shot now the weather has cooled down, hoping that everybody else doesn't have the same thought.

Steve and I are in Canberra for a 1st Birthday party for a little star called Stella so wont be  there. There is no rain forecast for Sunday so all looks good.

Meet outside the cafe at Nield Park, on Henley Marine Drive at 8am, for this 7km walk, enjoy!

Cheers,

CHAMPING AT THE BIT

BIRCHGROVE

We are ready and raring to go after a few weeks break from walking. I hope everyone had a good Easter and Anzac Day break, except for Anzac Day the weather has been absolutely perfect in Sydney.

We thought to start this Autumn season with a walk around Birchgrove taking in Elkington Park and Ballast Point Park as well as some Suburban streets, 'tis only a 5.5km walk so should get us primed for some longer walks in the future.

Meet on the corner of Cameron and Phillip Streets at the usual time, looking forward to hearing all the news from far and near.

Sleep in .......again

Due to lack of numbers, there will be no walk this Sunday 13th, seems that there is a lot going on at the moment.

We will have a break until after Easter and reconvene then, meantime, I hope the Easter Bunny finds you.

BLUE GUM BUSH TRACK

CHATSWOOD REVEALS A TREASURE

This 5km walk is a hidden gem, we start at Lowanna Park in Greville Street Chatswood, where there is free on street parking.

The track is very interesting, taking us into what was once Chatswood Rifle Range, who'd have thought we had a rifle range so close by? There are some hills and some bush track as well as some suburban street walking, quite a mixed bag.

Hope to see you there.

As you can see the options for coffee are limited to 'Quintessential' for a take away in Lowanna Park or drive to a local cafe, we'll decide on the day.

HUNTING AROUND

HUNTLEY'S COVE LOOP

This Sunday we explore Huntley's Cove - a 5km walk taking us past 2 schools, Riverside Girls and Joeys. There will be lots to see, some bush and water views as well.  All good track this week, especially after a few rainy days.

Park in Gladesville Road, between Ryde Road and Matthew Street, we will meet on the corner of Matthew St and Gladesville Rd at 8am. Val reports there is good coffee nearby so we don't have to scout around.

See you then.

SCULPTURE AT SAWMILLERS

CULTURE VULTURES

The sculpture exhibition at Sawmillers Reserve, McMahons Point, ends on Sunday; there are about 70 sculptures which we will pass when we start our walk, and after we conclude you can take another walk through at your leisure - it is an excellent exhibition, lots of variety and some very interesting works. Have a look here: www.sculptureatsawmillers.com

Meet at 8am on the corner of West Crescent and Blues Point Road, there is 2 hour street parking, with some unlimited parking at the end of West Crescent.

We will walk about 7kms because we won't do the Kirribilli loop shown on this link. We propose coming down past Luna Park and returning to Blues Point Road, there are lots of coffee shops around and about so we can decide on the day.

CAPTAIN'S CHOICE

NORTHBRIDGE

This Sunday we are indulging ourselves with a local walk for very good reason........which you will discover on Sunday.

Start at 8am at our place, park the car in Tenilba Road and we will take a 7km loop around Naremburn, Artarmon and Cammeray before returning.

There are no bush tracks this week, a few hills to get the heart rate up, but very few stairs.

BLACKWATTLE BAY

URBANITES UNITE

No bush tracks this week, we are avoiding any slippery tracks so will revisit Blackwattle Bay and Pyrmont.

Park in Refinery Drive or Mount Street Walk Pyrmont, bring some change for the meters, and we will waltz our way around the bay.The Mardi Gras will be over but if you like to add some flair to your regular walking attire....feel free.

I DO LIKE TO BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE.........

The Gap to North Bondi.

Firstly apologies for the late post........blame Jimmy Barnes last night.

We begin our 8km walk this Sunday from Gap Road at Watsons Bay. Turn right from Military Road into Gap Road, park there and meet on the corner of Military and Gap Roads at 8am.

This will be a beautiful walk and you will discover about radio astronomy in Sydney!

Bring your money or bus pass with you as after we walk to North Bondi we will catch a bus back to Watsons Bay.

Here's the link: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/357009515/

Last weeks walk was very interesting and fun. We might consider another visit to St Thomas Rest park as we didn't have a chance to explore because by the end of our walk it had started to rain.
Cheers,
B.
