HAROLD REID RESERVE

CASTLE COVE

Who the heck is........HAROLD REID?

This Sunday we will take a hike around Harold Reid Reserve, Castle Cove.

This is a very pretty and interesting bush walk, at 5kms it is a bit shorter than our usual walks but a request was made for a bush walk and this combines bush with lovely views and a smidgen of history.

Meet at 8am at the end of Sugarloaf  Crescent, Castle Cove, plenty of on street parking, the pathway is cleverly disguised - this is one of those lovely 'hidden treasures' in our midst.

Cheers,

NEUTRAL BAY - A NEW WAY

NEUTRAL BAY

This Sunday we explore Neutral Bay but not as we have before............we have approx 6kms of walking, some hills, parks, steps, and some water views balanced by some short exposure to the expressway.

Start at Milson Park in McDougall Street, near the 18' Skiff Club, where we will have coffee after our walk. I am not sure if the parking is metered, so bring some money in case.

Be there or be square!

ROSEVILLE MARINA

ROSEVILLE BECKONS

This will be our last Sunday morning walk until November....meantime email each other if you have a walk to share on Sundays.

Let's see if Sunday Nov 12th suits most people for an end of year brunch at our place - if we don't see you on the weekend please email to let us know if you can make it. Probably best to get in early rather than wait till closer to Christmas.

This Sunday we are discovering some bush areas beginning in Roseville Chase.

Meet near 15 Normac Street, Roseville, near the access to Roseville Marina and, Echo on the Marina cafe(echoonthemarina.com.au)The road is quite narrow with twists and turns but there is parking on the side of the road and a small parking area.

From Normac Street we will cross Boundary Road and skirt Roseville Golf Course before some bush walking on Two Creeks Track by the water under the Roseville Bridge. There will be hills and bush tracks as well as some street walking(!) In the sunshine Echo on the Marina is a wonderful venue for coffee.

NORTH HEAD

BEAUTIFUL NORTH HEAD

This Sunday the Sydney Marathon is on and the Bridge is closed so we thought we would head far away from the madding crowds..........fingers crossed.

This North Head loop is approx 6 kms, and, as far as everyone can remember, not very steep or challenging.  I have been wanting to do this walk for ages, looking forward to it.

Meet at the Bella Vista cafe on North Head Scenic Drive, just past the Hole in the Wall track, at the usual time of 8am. Don't know about paying for parking , the North Fort car park is just past the cafe, so bring money in case.

Let's hope for another stunning Sydney Sunday.

BEAUTY SPOT

EVER SEEN A QUAKERS HAT?

This Sunday could be your opportunity................Beauty Point is very aptly named and has a lovely bush track leading to the Quakers Hat.

Magnificent middle harbour vistas and spectacular views through the Heads keep our minds off a few steps and hills on this walk. It is only a shortie but a goodie. To start the walk we have a narrow bush track, then we need our street cred as we cross Military Road to the Balmoral side and proceed to The Spit for coffee.

Meet in Pearl Bay Avenue Mosman, near Moss Lane, at 8am.
If coming from the city on Military Road, take the second left turn after Medusa Street, half way down the Spit Bridge hill , parking should be plentiful.

Only 6kms!!

CAMPERDOWN CALLING

POCKET CITY FARM

We are heading to Camperdown to start and finish at the Pocket City Farm in Mallett Street Camperdown. This converted bowling club is a roaring success with a productive farm, cafe and play area. Fingers crossed the weather allows us a few dry hours on Sunday.

The walk is about 6.5kms. Please let me know if you are coming; especially as the weather forecast is so uncertain.

Meet outside the Farm in Mallett Street, park on the street, no meters.

The following Sunday, Sept 2nd, is Fathers Day so no walk that day.

HARBOURSIDE

CLIFTON GARDENS TO THE ZOO

We thought a walk around the shores of the Harbour would be good this Sunday, this walk is about 8.5kms and includes the Scottish cairn in Mosman (just to keep Steve and I in holiday mode) as well as some spectacular harbour views.  Coffee at the hole in the wall at Clifton Gardens will revive us before the last uphill leg.

Meet at 8am in the carpark near Gunners Barracks, Suakin Drive, Georges Heights. Follow the signs to Gunners Barracks, the car park is as far as that road takes you. No meter money required this week.

Looking forward to catching up and hearing about the Drummoyne and Barangaroo walks, which looked amazing from the pics.

CASTLECRAG AND NORTHBRIDGE

BUSH WALKING IN THE CITY

To indulge Steve and I, so we don't miss the bush too much , this week we walk around Northbridge and Castlecrag. The walk is about 5.5kms covering some bush and suburban streets. There are a few hills, some bush and water views.........and we visit 'The Haven' a Burley Griffin outdoor amphitheatre.

Meet  in the car park at the end of The Outpost in Northbridge, turn sharp left on Kameruka Road, just near our place. Plenty of unmetered parking. Sat nav might read Northbridge Bowling Club.

Cheers,

PYRMONT

This Sunday, we have Pyrmont in our sights. This is a fascinating walk, have you ever heard of Darling Island?

This is about a 7km walk, not many hills and definitely no bush tracks, some interesting cityscapes and a fascinating water sculpture featuring cantilevered ladders.......

We begin the walk near the corner of Mount Street Walk and Refinery Drive, no free parking around here so bring some meter food. We then proceed along the waterfront and see the Bridge from a different perspective, before we get up close and personal with the Anzac Bridge.

BUFFALO CREEK AND FIELD OF MARS

FIELD OF MARS AND BUFFALO CREEK

A familiar area for most of us to drive by, but how many of us have ventured into the Field of Mars Wildlife Refuge and Cemetery?

This walk will be about 8kms and take in Boronia Park Oval, part of Buffalo Creek Reserve and a wander through Field of Mars, it looks very interesting.

Gotta love this city!

Meet in Princes Street, near the intersection with Pittwater Road, a few coffee spots to choose from here.

Highly recommend this walk, it was very picturesque, see you Sunday.

BARANGAROO NANGAMAY

It is time to have another look at Barangaroo and this time we have the addition of an interactive artwork .........should be interesting.

Download the free app  Barangaroo Ngangamay on your phone and we can discover engravings, stories and short films honouring Barangaroo and all Aboriginal women.

The app uses GPS and guides you to the site of carvings and other immersive art works.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

WILLOUGHBY LEISURE

SATURATION POINT

We are staying mostly on road this week as the ground is still saturated after all the rain - thanks Debbie - starting at the Willoughby Leisure Centre car park (free parking) we will make our way towards St Leonards and return to the Incinerator cafe for a coffee. The walk is about 6 kms.

The Incinerator has some interesting history...originally designed by Walter Burley Griffin and used from 1934 to 1967 to process waste, it was damaged by lightening and vandalised before an unsympathetic renovation in the 1980s. Work began on the current renovation in 2006; the architects could find very little original design information so used 3-D modelling from photographs to assist with the design. The building now houses a small art gallery and artist space downstairs and the cafe above. It is wonderful that this unique building has been preserved, who would have thought Burley Griffin designed incinerators?.

Please let me know if you are able to come this Sunday especially if the weather is uncertain.

HARBOUR SCULPTURES

WOOLWICH WALKING

It is Harbour Sculptures time again, it's always interesting to see how the sculptures enhance Clarkes Point and this year there is a pop up cafe at the Hunters Hill Sailing Club which could ease congestion at the other cafes.

The planned walk is nearly 7kms but we frequently get side tracked when the sculptures are exhibited......

We will meet and park in Franki Street, near the Woolwich Pier Hotel at 8am, fingers crossed the rain stays away for the morning. On street parking is free in Franki Street.

TOO DARN HOT

WAY TOO HOT

We have rather reluctantly decided to be sensible this Sunday and cancel our walk. We couldn't find another short shady walk, and didn't want to have people melting, so, as good as it was to see everyone last Sunday we will have to wait.......

Steve and I will be away skiing in US from Feb 18th to March 7th so we will be asking for volunteers to lead the walk during that time. Any takers?

2017...THE ADVENTURE BEGINS

CASTLE COVE

Who the heck is........HAROLD REID?

To start the year we will take a hike around Harold Reid Reserve, Castle Cove.

This is a very pretty and interesting bush walk, a bit shorter than our usual walks but if we want to walk for coffee afterwards that will add another 1km. Those with lunch dates will be finished in plenty of time to get home and prepare, others might linger over coffee at Dose Espresso at Willoughby (near Harris Farm Market on High Street).

Meet at 8am at the end of Sugarloaf  Crescent, Castle Cove, plenty of on street parking, the pathway is cleverly disguised - this is one of those lovely 'hidden treasures' in our midst.

Cheers,

Bernadette.
