FAIRYLAND

LANE COVE FAIRYLAND

To end 2013 we thought a trip to Fairyland was appropriate. This is a shaded walk of approx. 6km through some bush tracks. There is some interesting history on this walk, we pass the Bogle Chandler 'murder' site, see an old Sydney 'playground' and imagine how life was when only an occasional boat ventured up the River.

Park in the Northern Suburbs Athletics Field in Mowbray Road, close to the intersection with Epping Highway.

Please let me know if you are coming......here's the link:

For those we don't see on the weekend, have a Merry Christmas and a healthy 2014. We will resume our Sunday walks in February, meantime keep on wearing out those soles.

PENULTIMATE WALK FOR 2013

NORTHBRIDGE WANDERINGS

On Sunday we thought we would revisit Northbridge, this is the walk we planned prior to our brunch a few weeks back. 7kms with some shade as we walk along the track beside the golf course and overlook the water. Parts are a little steep, but that should not worry us. Park and start at our place.

Please let me know if you intend coming as several people are away and others have functions on Sunday, we do like a quorum!

Next Sunday, 15th Dec., will be our last scheduled walk for the year, maybe let me know in advance if you can't make it, everybody is very busy so we might skip it depending on numbers.

DECEMBER ALREADY!

This week we have some bush tracks, steps and some street walking starting from  Wollstonecraft Station, park in Shirley Road and meet on the corner near the station.

This maps out about 7.5kms but has some steep parts to challenge us, some parts of the track were a bit wet so walking boots would be good.

Here are some tempters:

Till Sunday, Bernadette

CHISWICK - THE SUBURB, NOT THE RESTAURANT

NOT QUITE IN THE CHOOK YARD..................

This Sunday we start our walk on the corner of Kokoda St and Blackwall Point Road, Chiswick. Park the car in Kokoda St, coffee afterwards in Amoretti"s cafe in Bechert Road (bet you've never been to Bechert Rd!!!)

This is a picturesque walk,(only about 7kms); it takes in some familiar territory for those of us whose sons rowed for High. We visit the beautiful old mansion built by the Renwick family, the old animal quarantine station in Abbotsford and we see the Searle memorial, an interesting post sticking up in the middle of the waterway.

Usual start time of 8am, let me know either by SMS or a comment here if you are coming - the weather forecast is good.

THIS CITY JUST KEEPS ON GIVING IT UP.......

Starting at Mosman Rowers Club car park this Sunday - 3 Centenary Drive Mosman. There is 4 hour free parking in this car park, lets hope it is not crowded.

Directions from Military Road

  1. Continue on Military Rd outbound from Neutral Bay.
  2. At the Spit Rd intersection, keep right on Military Rd.
  3. Continue on Military Rd, heading towards Avenue Rd.
  4. Turn Right onto Avenue Rd.
  5. At the roundabout – take the 2nd exit onto Avenue Rd.
  6. At the following roundabout – take the 1st exit onto Avenue Rd.
  7. Turn right onto Centenary Drive.
  8. Take the first left into the car park.
This week we resume a loop walk, along the foreshore, discovering some more enchanting coastal views and lookouts before returning via some residential streets (each week I discover another place I would like to live).

Measuring about 8kms this walk is a step lover's dream, I was distracted by some pretty remarkable views, especially around the Curlew Camp Walk , and Cooee Cove. More history for you Marg, this was an artists camp where Streeton, Roberts and the like all painted at one time. They knew a great view when they saw one.

Once again there is a bit of everything, formed paths, bush track and steps, finishing on a lovely path around the Cremorne Wharf Headland where we ended our walk last week.

SYDNEY SAFARI

EVER SEEN A WHITE RHINO?

Sunday is the date for our Sydney Safari................in the spirit of prolonging our holiday state of mind we thought it appropriate to go on safari at home and see a white rhino - a very fine specimen too.

Let's begin at Milsons Point Station at 8am, walk over the bridge, then take a sculpture walk in the Botanic Gardens, where the rhino is part of Artisans in the Gardens 2013? Sunday is the last day of this great exhibition and a walk over the bridge and back is always fun.

See you Sunday.

B xo

PS Meeting point is the bottom of the steps leading to the bridge, eastern side of the station.

BACK ON DECK AND RARING TO GO

CASTLE COVE

Firstly I apologise for posting so late in the week, it may be taking some time for my routines to kick in.......

As it looks like a warm one on Sunday we are going to do a bush walk in Castlecrag, taking in the Harold Reid Reserve.

Meet at the end of Sugarloaf Crescent, Castle Crag at 8am, coffee afterwards at the small cafe on Eastern Valley Way.

Looking forward to catching up.

BRINGING MATTERS TO A (SOUTH) HEAD ON FATHERS DAY

VAUCLUSE TO WATSONS BAY.

Following on from last week, we meet in the car park in Greycliffe Ave Vaucluse at 8am.

This 7km walk takes us along the coast (as much as possible) to Watsons Bay, past some spectacular beaches, glorious views of the Heads and some Sydney history from WW2.

The pics speak louder than words...............

I will post some walks for the coming weeks in the next few days, and circulate email addresses and phone numbers. Perhaps the best idea is to contact others if you intend walking, or just make sure you are on time for the rendezvous and see who turns up.

SPARKLING SYDNEY HARBOUR.......AGAIN.

ROSE BAY TO NIELSON PARK

Steve's choice this week, continuing along the eastern harbour shoreline.

We shall start where we left off last Sunday - Rose Bay Ferry Wharf. Park on the street and meet at 8am.

This walk takes us along the very interesting shoreline with some wonderful views. We pass an old gun emplacement, Strickland House and finish up at Nielson Park, where we will have coffee before taking the bus back to the ferry wharf. Make sure you have your bus fare with you, tied in the corner of your hanky.

The forecast is great so it should be another glistening day by the water.

BTW Jane and Roger said Redleaf was fab last Sunday, maybe keep that in mind for future visits.

BACK TO DOUBLE ROSE

Finally!

The City to Surf put a stop to the planned route from Double Bay to Rose Bay, so we are heading there this Sunday. See the post from Aug 4th for details, meet at Double Bay Ferry Wharf at 8am and bring your money for a coffee and Ferry Ride.

Looking forward to catching up as it seems like ages since we did.

BTW if you are in the Woolwich area, take a look at harboursculpture at Clarkes Point and the Deckhouse, where you walked a few weekends ago http://harboursculpture.com/

See you soon,
B.

OH NO - NOT CITY TO SURF!!!!

FLAT ROCK GULLY REVISITED

Sunday 11 August is City to Surf (thought it was last week when we were out of Sydney)!
It makes heaps of sense then, to avoid 'Double Rose'.

So instead we will check on the late Winter glories of Flat Rock Gully. This was a popular walk in Spring 2012, so we'll meet at the Shell service station on Miller Street in Cammeray (plenty of free parking on Miller Street or the council car park behind the shops).

We'll head over to Naremburn and then down under the Gore Hill Freeway, into Flat Rock Gully and up the other side to a well-deserved coffee at Maggios. A hill or two, a bush track and maybe some stairs for the challenge - all good fun.

Looking forward to seeing you there at 8am.
Steve

DOUBLE ROSE

FURTHER EAST............

Steve is blazing a trail eastward this Sunday. An 8km walk from Double Bay to Rose Bay, then a ferry ride after coffee, sounds mighty good.

Meet at Double Bay ferry wharf, Bay Street at 8am. On street parking is free on Sunday. The ferry leaves at 10.15am from Rose Bay so that should leave plenty of time for a coffee at Rose Bay and an explore along the way.

I will be MIA this Sunday( a quilt trip to Brisbane :-)), and am sorry to be missing such an interesting walk. Have fun, and please either comment or SMS if you are coming, if you don't have Steve's phone number, let me know.

Cheers,
B.
