Westward Ho!

To celebrate the ides of July we have a route planned around Woolwich. We are not sure if the Pier will be open for coffee on Sunday morning but there are other cafes in Hunters Hill village if  the Pier cannot cope with an invasion.

This is a picturesque walk of about 7km, including Woolwich baths, Kelly's Bush, Clarke Park and Woolwich Dock. There are stairs and hills, but not as many as last week.

WALKING TIPS

Try some interval training while you walk.

Increase your pace for about 20 steps then return to normal speed, and keep these intervals going for the duration of your walk. This is based on the theory that the body adapts to exercise very quickly. If you want to benefit from your regular exercise, it is important to 'mix it up a little'. This type of interval training also keeps you more focused on the task of walking, with the result that you will be mindful of good walking form.

Give it a try, you will be surprised at how effective this form of training can be.

By the way, the intervals themselves can be mixed up a little, as short as 10 steps or as long as a minute fast, a minute regular pace.

    1. You are not the only one Marg, I've heard from several others that they actually feel energised after what some call an early start, see you in the morning.
