WILLOUGHBY LEISURE

EOY WALK

We are staying mostly on road this week for our last walk of the year.
We will meet at the Willoughby Leisure Centre car park (free parking) near the corner of Pendey and Small Streets.
We will make our way towards Naremburn and over to Artarmon before returning to the Incinerator cafe for a coffee.
The walk is about 6.5 kms.

Looking forward to the End-Of-Year finale before the absolute seasonal crazies start.

EOY BRUNCH

NORTHBRIDGE WANDERINGS

On Sunday we thought we would revisit Northbridge for a walk prior to our brunch. 7kms with some shade as we walk along the track beside the golf course and overlook the water. Parts are a little steep, but that should not worry us. Park and start at our place.

Please let me know if you intend coming as several people are away and others have functions on Sunday, we do like a quorum!

See you at 8am.

HAROLD REID RESERVE

Who the heck is........HAROLD REID?

This Sunday we will take a hike around Harold Reid Reserve, Castle Cove.

This is a very pretty and interesting bush walk, at 5kms it's a bit shorter than our usual walks but if we want to walk for coffee afterwards that will add another 1km.

There are a few options for coffee which we can explore on the day.

Meet at 8am at the end of Sugarloaf  Crescent, Castle Cove, plenty of on street parking, the pathway is cleverly disguised at the end of the street - this is one of those lovely 'hidden treasures' in our midst.

Cheers,

Bernadette.

LOOKING FOR SILVER WATER

The thrill of Sydney Ferries attracts us again (and the forecast of a cooler day).

This is a flat walk beginning at the Armoury Wharf Cafe, Blaxland Riverside Park Jamieson Street, off Holker Street, Newington. We walk from here (for about 20 minutes) to Sydney Olympic Park Ferry Wharf to catch the 8.38am ferry from SOP to Meadowbank Ferry Wharf to start the main walk.
We will walk along a shared path on the Parramatta River, past mangroves and playing fields. Those who have not passed this way recently will be surprised by the development of a housing estate and parkland by the riverside. We cross the river at Silverwater Bridge and pass Wilson Park and Blaxland Riverside Park to arrive at the Armoury Cafe for a well earned coffee.

Remember to bring your OPAL card for your ferry ride :-)

A total of 8.3kms, no steps or hills, the approach to Silverwater Bridge is as steep as it gets.

Hope to see y'all on Sunday.

EPPING BECKONS

This is a loop walk of around 8km that starts and finishes at Epping Station where there is a good café nearby for coffee afterwards.

A great way to explore the Lane Cove Valley from Epping Station, this walk loops around North Epping, returning to the station. There are many sights to be seen along this walk, with Whale Rock and Brown's Waterhole being a couple of highlights. The walk explores Devlins Creek, upper Lane Cove River and Terry's Creek.

Meet on the corner of Langston Place, Pembroke St and Oxford St, Epping. We will have coffee at Nero's in Oxford Street (or somewhere) after the walk.

BALMORAL BUMPS

SUNDAY OCT 13

The forecast for this Sunday is much better than Saturday so we are chancing our arm at Balmoral for a shortish walk which includes some hills, yay!

Burran Ave, Balmoral is our starting point, free parking, plenty of spots during the week so fingers crossed for Sunday. Meet near the sign pointing down to the beach, where the star is on the map, near where Stanton Rd intersects with Burran Ave.

We can choose where to have coffee, before a short stroll along the Esplanade and beach, up to the cars.

Looking forward to seeing y'all soon,

Bernadette

SAWMILLERS RESERVE

HARBOURSIDE - and daylight saving!!

This Sunday, after adjusting our clocks for daylight saving,  we take a walk around the Harbour starting from the bottom of Blues Point Road. Unfortunately the sculptures on Sawmillers seem to be a thing of the past but we can use our imagination.

Meet at 8am on the corner of West Crescent and Blues Point Road, there is 2 hour street parking, with some unlimited parking at the end of West Crescent.

We will walk about 6kms. We propose coming down past Luna Park and returning to Blues Point Road, there are lots of coffee shops around and about so we can decide on the day.

Dam Cold!!

MANLY DAM - that is!!!

With the City to Surf on this weekend, it's best to be far from the city.  So it seemed like a good time to return to Manly Dam.

The walk is about 8 kms around the Dam. Meet in the car park in King Street at 8am.
It is pay to park if you want (so bring your money in case) or park in King Street north of the entrance.

Afterwards we will try out the coffee recommended by our friendly Manly natives (M & G).

Looking forward to seeing everyone and escaping the city to surf crowds.

Beauty Point

This Sunday we return to Beauty Point.

Magnificent middle harbour vistas and spectacular views through the Heads keep our minds off a few steps and hills on this walk. It is full of beauty (as you would expect). The walk follows a narrow bush track to Quakers Hat, then we head east up the hill and over Military Road to the Balmoral side. Down the other side to Chinamans Beach, then along past the Parriwi Lighthouse and over to The Spit for coffee.

Meet in Pearl Bay Avenue Mosman, near Fig Tree Lane, at 8am.
When coming from the city on Military Road, take the second left turn after Medusa Street, half way down the Spit Bridge hill and into Pearl Bay Avenue. Parking should be plentiful.

Only 6 or 7kms!!

Due Passi

Two Steps (Italian)

At the end of June we walked from Meadowbank to Cabarita. This week we will continue down the river.

We start at Abbotsford Wharf . The ferry to Cabarita is scheduled to leave at 8.14am, so meeting at the normal time should see us in place on time.

Remember your OPAL card.

We start the actual walking at Cabarita Wharf and head south with a French flavour (…I know, Bastille Day was last Sunday …) as we discover some French (Canadian) Connections - Canada Bay, Exile Bay and France Bay. Our walk reveals a little known episode in our history. After the Lower Canada Rebellion of 1838, 60 rebels were deported to Australia and spent their time at Longbottom (Concord) constructing Parramatta Road, collecting oyster shells for making lime, and generally passer du bon temps.
Bayview Park has a memorial to these rebels - you can read more on Wikipedia.

We march on Mes Patriotes.

Not sure about the origins of Kings Bay or Hen & Chicken Bay, but we turn away from the water at H&CB and head for coffee.  There are a few likely places on Great North Road (including Due Passi)between Altona and Spring Streets (for those not doing the full walk) – we’ll decide when we arrive.

After coffee, we head back to the cars at Abbotsford Point.  The distance is a little over 9 km, and the forecast is for a warm winter’s day.

We start and finish at Roseville Park this week.

Meet in Roseville Park on the corner of Cranbrook Ave and Clanville Road Roseville. Plenty of street parking, no meters.

This walk takes us down by Roseville Chase through some bush, then some suburban streets before finishing for coffee in cafe 'Sous le soleil' in Roseville Park.

MOTHERS DAY SPECIAL

WEST RYDE AND DARVALL PARK

This Sunday we take a turn around West Ryde and Darvall Park, an area very familiar to many of us.

There is a fun run in the CBD for Mothers day so we thought to steer clear of that.

Start at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, cnr Ryedale Road and Wattle Street West Ryde at 8am. Plenty of parking here.

This is a walk with a few hills so be prepared, Roly Poly Hill being a memorable one. Coffee is good at West Ryde Station when we finish.

Look forward to a brisk 6 or so kms , see you there.
